The ACA Red Book wills be available starting later this week at the Alano Club for $15. Just stop into the office at the club at 909 NW 24th Ave in Portland.

The ACA picnic is on SUNDAY, August 18th. There was a misprint on the flyer.  PLEASE SAVE THIS DATE AS THE FLYER INCORRECTLY READS THAT THE PICNIC IS ON SATURDAY.

The ACA Red Book is available through amazon.com for $9.99 for your iPhone or Kindle device. Be aware that the page numbers on this digital version are different than the page numbers in the paper text. If you use this version in a meeting you can find your spot by using the “search” function. Search for a sentence or phrase from the paper version to find the correct spot. Click here to purchase.

ACA had our first meeting this Monday at the Columbia River Correctional Institute in NE Portland.  We had 2 ACA members and 2 participants from the prison, with 2 more who wished to attend but didn’t make it. Meetings are held every Monday night from 7:30-8:30pm.

All inmates are men preparing for release who have committed nonviolent crimes against property. Male and female volunteers are welcome. You will be asked to complete a background check. You can attend as many meetings as you wish – no commitment is required. For more information or to get involved, send an email to birchjones@hotmail.com

There will be games, toys, and even a pinata!!!

A small and dedicated ACA Outreach committee has formed this month. Their mission is to spread the ACA message with attraction materials, i.e. pamphlets and bookmarks. There are easy ways to get involved for a one-time only service opportunity, or more long term. You can get involved by joining the committee, or by distributing flyers to local clubhouses, therapist offices, or wherever else you see fit. To become involved in the committee or to learn where to obtain a stack of flyers, send an email to committedgirl88@gmail.com, or to donweston@q.com.

The Oregon Counseling Association will be holding its annual Fall Conference on Saturday, November 9th in Eugene. An ACA member and therapist will be speaking about ACA from 3:30-4:30pm. We are looking for 2-3 members to share their stories for about 5-10 minutes each. Intergroup may at some point also decide to try to staff a table, but that’s not been decided yet. For more information or to get involved, send an email to pdxsocialwork@yahoo.com.

The yearly ACA picnic potluck will be held Saturday, August 18th from 11:00-5:00. We will be meeting at the covered area of Montavilla Park at the cross street of NE 82nd and Glisan. Families welcome – especially inner children! Bring a dish to pass and your amazing self.

An ACA member is trying to start up an ACA Teen meeting in Vancouver. This would likely be a one hour meeting either during the school day or after, depending on the availability of volunteers. They will need one ACA member to sponsor the meeting, and as many others that would like to attend. Imagine if we all received the opportunity of attending an ACA meeting before adulthood! For more information, send an email to beginanew@msn.com.

The ACA Intergroup meets every 1st Monday of the month. This month’s meeting is Monday, July 1st at 5:30pm at the Alano Club. All are welcome to come and have your voice heard. Some topics that will be discussed are: the upcoming picnic, outreach to local counselors and mental health professionals, and THE ACA PICNIC!!! We invite you to add your input about where we will host this year’s ACA picnic! See you Monday:)
